The main failure mode of the roller chain drive

The main failure modes of the chain drive are the following:

(1) roller chain plate fatigue failure

Chain loose side under repeated tension and tight side tension, after a certain number of cycles, the chain plate fatigue failure may occur. Under normal lubrication conditions, the fatigue strength is the main factor defining the carrying capacity of the chain drive.

(2) roller sleeve of impact fatigue damage

The chain drive meshing impact is borne by the first roller and the sleeve. Under repeated shocks, after a certain number of cycles, the roller sleeve will experience fatigue failure. This failure occurred in the form of a high-speed closed chain drive.

(3) roller chain pin and sleeve glued

When the wheel speed of up to a certain value, the impact energy links bitten by the increase between the pin and sleeve lubricants are destroyed, so that both the direct contact with the work surface at high temperature and pressure, thereby leading to gluing. Therefore, it is glued to a certain extent, limiting the chain of transmission of the speed limit.

(4) chain hinge wear

Hinge worn links become long, prone to jump off the teeth or chains. Open drive, harsh environmental conditions, or poor lubrication of the seal when the hinge can easily cause wear and tear, thereby drastically reducing the life of the chain.

(5) Overload pull off

This often occurs in low-speed pull-off off overloaded or severe overload of the drive.
